Prime Salami vs Peperami

PRIME Salami vs Peperami

PRIME Salami has been labelled ‘The Posh Peperami’ by fans and followers, a concept which we wanted to put to the test! We’ve delved deep into the nutrition, origin and ingredients of PRIME Salami vs. Peperami to put our cards on the table and justify our well-deserved reputation of posh, premium and PRIME Salami! Here goes…

A Meaty Market

The meat snacks market is pretty huge, with market size in the UK generating £71m revenue last year from Peperami alone. But Peperami has been around since 1979 and consumer opinion, demand and awareness has evolved significantly over the past four decades.

The rise of the health-conscious consumer has seen an increasing demand for snacks which are made with real food ingredients and provide nutritional benefits. In an effort to respond to the evolving market, Peperami revised its recipe back in 2003 to reduce overall fat, saturated fat and salt in its recipes. But good nutrition is not just about eliminating bad foods, it’s also about embracing good foods which can help to optimise health and wellbeing; and so PRIME Salami was born!

We’ve upgraded the salami sausage using 100% Grass Fed British Beef, real food ingredients and no hidden nasties for a snack that’s as nutritious as it is delicious. Read on to find out how it compares to its Peperami pork-based counterpart.

Nutritious vs. Suspicious

When creating our premium PRIME Salami we made nutrition our mission and set off to develop a healthy snack that’s as good for you as it tastes. We don’t believe anyone should have to choose between happy and healthy, and when it comes to delivering on taste, we’ve found using only the best ingredients also makes for the best nutritional profile!

PRIME Salami: Nutritious

  • High in Nutrient Dense Animal Protein – Complete Source of Essential Amino Acids
  • Low Carb and High Fat – Perfect for Keto and Paleo Lifestyles
  • Sugar, Dairy and Gluten Free
  • 100% Grass Fed British Beef – Higher in Conjugated Linoleic Acid, Glutathione, Omega-3, Vitamins and Minerals compared with its Grain-Fed Counterparts
  • Just 103kcals Per Serving

So far so good for PRIME Salami, but aren’t all Salami snacks the same in terms of nutrition? No! Here’s how PRIME Salami compares with original gangster Salami snack Peperami.

Nutritional Comparison: PRIME Salami vs. Peperami

For the purpose of this comparison we have scaled up the smaller Peperami (22.5g) to our standard 28g serving size to make a fair and direct nutritional comparison. Remember, the smaller the serving the less nutrition of course! But hey, for some of the nutrients in Peperami – that could be a good thing! Let’s take a look…

PRIME Salami OriginalPeperami Original
Energy (kcal)103139.4
Protein (g)8.96.5
Fat (g)7.312.3
of which saturates (g)3.15.1
Carbohydrate (g)0.10.6
of which sugars (g)00.6
Salt (g)1.31.1

So, Peperami packs in more calories with less protein but a higher amount of carbs, saturated fat and sugar – doesn’t seem fair, right? “But Peperami sticks are slightly smaller than PRIME salami” we hear you object – rightly so! Turns out, even in their smaller serving size of 22.5g, Peperami still weighs in higher in calories, saturated fat and carbs – but lower in protein and healthy fats. When it comes to snacks, size isn’t everything!

Grass Fed vs. Grain Fed

PRIME Salami is made using 100% Grass Fed British Beef which we source from local farmers who we know and trust. Here are just some of the benefits of grass-fed farming:

  • Better for You – Livestock raised on a pasture-based diet just as nature intended produce meat higher in healthy fats, quality protein, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants
  • Better for the Planet – Grass Fed Farming produces lower emissions, lower greenhouse gases and is free from pesticides and herbicides which are harmful to the land
  • Better for the Animals – Cows roam free in their natural environment with far fewer human touch points, so they’re as happy, free and stress-free as can be!

Grain fed animals (such as the pork used to make peperami) are worse for the environment and less nutrient dense. It’s also not fun and games for the animals themselves, with hundreds of animals crammed into indoor feeding lots and rarely getting to see the light of day.

What’s more, the grains used to feed them make their way up the food chain and into our diets as allergens. Grass Fed Farming is the gold standard of meat production and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Great British Fields vs. Further Afield

PRIME Salami is made using 100% Great British Beef. We work closely with farmers who have produced beef for generations and are experts in their field (pardon the pun!) Supporting the British farming industry is at the heart of PRIME Salami and helps to give back to the local economy. Getting our beef close to home is also more sustainable (adios air miles) and means we get our meat when it’s at its freshest – locking in all of that amazing flavour from the get-go!

In comparison, Peperami is manufactured in Ansbach, Germany before being distributed to the UK and Ireland. This means more air miles, less freshness and greater risk of contamination due to the several steps needed to get the finished product to you.
